As managers, we often sense a discrepancy between what is happening around us and “how things could actually be running”. Perhaps the objectives and strategies are inconsistent, perhaps superiors and/or staff are not listening to us, schedules are unrealistic, or communication with clients, colleagues or suppliers has simply stalled.
We have to deal, and inevitably do deal, with every perceived discrepancy. Often we decide to swallow our negative feelings (such as resentment, fear or even anger) and carry on smiling regardless. Or we simply pass the stress or pressure we feel on to those around us – our staff, for example.
Some things fall within our direct responsibility and can be changed by us. More often, though, it is precisely the problems (and usually the people) beyond our direct influence that preoccupy us again and again, keep us working long hours or, in the worst case, drive us to despair.
In our coaching we first identify the areas you want to change and define the goal of our work together. We focus on specific areas of conflict and/or leadership. Together we discuss which of your traits and formative influences are at the root of the conflict you are experiencing, and develop new perspectives and approaches. What is decisive for your continued success is not only examining the past, but learning strategies for ongoing self-management and for handling fresh stress as it arises.
As a result, you will radiate greater calm, optimism and resolve – and act more successfully because of it.
Alongside personal conversation, we draw on a wide range of tools as the situation requires – such as the Gallup StrengthsFinder, MBTI, systemic questioning and others – to gain new insights and positive motivation.
In some situations, however, looking for a new job is still the most effective remaining alternative.
We all come into the world with certain traits and abilities and, over the course of our lives, acquire values and beliefs that give us stability and direction.
An important first step in coaching is therefore often to get to know and understand your own profile: which events have shaped me most? What are my personal strengths and weaknesses? Where have I experienced and successfully applied them so far?
Inner resistance to what cannot be changed only paralyses us. In coaching you learn techniques to recognise and manage negative emotions early, without creating fresh stress – so that you can focus your energy on the task at hand.
The result: you come across as more present, composed and optimistic – and demonstrably achieve more.
